Kasta, a name familiar even to people far from rap, emerged in Rostov-on-Don in 1997, when Russian rap was only taking its first uncertain steps. The lineup known today as Vladi, Shym, Hamil, and Zmey formed gradually from a circle of local rap enthusiasts who deeply understood street moods and the weight of words.
